About Kristyn Taylor

This blog and site is all about Dearborn, Michigan, politics, getting involved, and other things…from my perspective.  I’m Kristyn Taylor and this blog began as a part of my write-in campaign for Dearborn City Council in the summer of 2009 (when I really was on a journey to get onto the ballot).  I didn’t make it past the primary but I was out there then and am here now to ask people to look at things in a new way and come up with different solutions to the problems we face.

Not everything on here is political because that can be pretty boring to most people, but this is about my life and my journey toward a ballot of some kind.  I want to make an impact and, for me, that means having a hand in the progress and development of our communities from a very close perspective.  I strongly encourage discussions and debates – I know I’m not right all the time and often I will post ideas on here in their beginning stages and rely on good discussion to strengthen them and make them viable.  I am a do-er and will show you how I make ideas happen whether they are my own or I am helping someone else.

Oh, also here is some other basic info about me:

  • I’m 25 years old
  • I grew up in the Chicago suburbs, moved to Michigan in the middle of Sophomore year of high school
  • In high school, I was a running back in football and wrestled for both my Illinois and Michigan schools.  I was the first woman to play Varsity football at my Michigan school, also the first woman to score points in Varsity football at that school.
  • I earned my M.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications from EMU in December 09 and earned my B.S. in Electronic Media and Film with Double Honors from EMU in 2007 (graduated in 3 years!)
  • I am an Alumna of Sigma Kappa Sorority from EMU
  • I am in my second year at Wayne State Law on a 75% scholarship
  • I come from a big family – 4 brothers and 1 sister, two parents and two stepparents – my dad passed away when I was 15 but the strength of my family is always there to support me
  • I bought a house in Dearborn in June 2009 – A member of the Snow Woods Neighborhood Association, I am helping to coordinate the 2nd Annual SWNA Street Sale in August 2012
  • I am dating my boyfriend of 7 years who also bought a house in Dearborn in June 2009
  • I love to learn and to plan.  I constantly set up life goals and my newest one is that I want to be conversational in the 7 official languages of the UN – I am learning Arabic now.
  • I go to First Presbyterian Church in Dearborn and love to be a part of the choir there
  • For three years, I worked as a Creative/Marketing Consultant with M&O Marketing – I created and managed marketing programs for our clients – mostly small businesses of independent annuity insurance agents.  I continue to work on freelance writing projects with them.
  • I previously worked as a student attorney with the Free Legal Aid Clinic through Wayne State Law, where I developed a knack for representing clients at PPO termination hearings.
  • Currently, I work as a student attorney with the Wayne State Asylum and Immigration Clinic where my client has an asylum merits hearing coming up.  I also work on discrimination cases with the American -Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee as the Complaint/Redress Coordinator.

So, that’s basically me.  I’m an open book so feel free to ask questions.  I hope you enjoy taking this journey with me!

  2. Hi Gary! Thanks for reading my blog and commenting! I will be going full time. I’m in the combined day/evening program so I will have most of my classes at night with a couple during the day. I’m impatiently waiting the schedule so I can start planning out my time once it gets started. :)

Good morning, Kristyn! I wonder if you are available for a radio interview tomorrow (Friday, June 3) in regard to Save Our Small Pools. I am the News Director for WHFR (89.3 FM, http://www.whfr.fm), the independent radio station at HFCC, and co-host a weekly public affairs program with Jay Korinek. I also sent you a message and friend request on Facebook, and I included all of my contact info there.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

    Dennis
